1. ELIGIBILITY
All two- and four-year campus newspapers from schools that have paid 2004-2005
membership dues are eligible to enter the competition. (Because of past
problems encountered in collecting dues, it was decided at the 1996 KIPA
convention that entries will be automatically disqualified from schools
whose dues have not been paid prior to judging of entries.) Entries must
be the work of UNDERGRADUATE student members of the newspaper who were
enrolled in the college or university in Spring 2005 or Fall 2005.GO

2. DIVISIONS
All contests are judged in two divisions. Division A includes entries
from schools with enrollments of 5,000 or more. Division B includes schools
with less than 5,000. Two-year colleges with enrollments more than 5,000
may enter either, but not both, divisions.
3. DATES OF ENTRIES
Print entries must have been published in the campus newspaper during
the contest period of Jan. 1-Dec. 31, 2005.
4. ENTRIES IDENTIFICATION
Full-page tearsheets are acceptable for all entries. Please mark the story,
photo, etc., with a red pen or grease pencil to help judges find it on
the page if necessary. All entries, except design categories, should be
identified in the upper right-hand corner by indicating the name of the
newspaper, college or university, name of student, category, date of publication
and the division. Page design entries should have the label on the back
in the upper right hand corner. For example:
The Murray State News
Murray State University
Jane Student
News story
Dec. 3, 2005
Division A
Entries not properly identified will be disqualified.
5. CATEGORY IDENTIFICATION
All entries in a category should be placed in one 9x12 envelope and appropriately
labeled on the outside of the envelope by the name of the newspaper, college
or university, category, division and the number of entries in the category.
For example:
The Georgetonian
Georgetown College
Feature Story
Division B
5 entries
6. NUMBER OF ENTRIES
Please read the contest category sheet carefully. In categories where
individual students enter, no more than TWO ENTRIES per student (or group
if work is a team effort) per category are allowed. One published work
constitutes an individual entry in a category, with the exception of the
Editorial Cartoon, Comic Strip, Overall Layout, Front Page Layout and
Opinion Page Layout categories, where three works constitute an individual
entry. If a student submits more than two entries in an individual category,
all of that student’s entries in that category will be disqualified.
The maximum number of entries is five per school, per category. If a school
submits more than five entries in an individual category, all entries
for that category from that school will be disqualified.
In categories where an entire newspaper staff may be responsible, the
number of entries for each school is limited to one per staff, i.e., Spring
2005 staff and /or Fall 2005 staff.
7. MAILING
All entry envelopes should be mailed in one package and must be received
at Northern Kentucky University by Jan. 5. Send them by UPS or FedEx before
holiday break so that the entries can be tracked. If you send them by
U.S. mail, send early. No late entries accepted.
